Whatever kind of help the student needs. That might be homework help, preparing for a test, going back to fill in gaps, getting ahead, or a mix of these depending on the workload that day.

First, we listen to the parents and what they want. We have a variety of curriculum we can pull from when it’s useful. If we need to teach a topic rather than just help with the current work, we usually use a checklist of concepts instead of following one set curriculum. There are too many variables to be stuck on one path.

Can you help with general organization and staying on top of assignments?

Yes. We can help the student build and use a system to stay on top of all their assignments.

For existing students, we’re more than willing to help with other things too, especially staying on top of assignments and juggling everything overall. Our expertise is math. We’re willing to help in other subjects too, but we’ll let you know if we think it will be helpful or not.

We’re probably not the right fit for a student who regularly needs help in multiple subjects. If that’s what you need and you’re having trouble finding someone, email or text us. We’ll see if we know someone who can help.

Yes. I've worked with students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism, and other learning differences. Honestly, from my point of view as a tutor, a diagnosis is often a gift. It tells me things about a student that might otherwise take me weeks to notice on my own. I get to start there instead of starting from zero.

It's important to me that you know two things. First, I don't see "neurotypical" as another word for "normal." There isn't a normal in the human condition. Second, while a diagnosis can tell me useful things about a student, it doesn't tell me who they are. That's the part I still have to learn. I'm not teaching a category. I'm teaching the person in front of me.

Yes. I really enjoy helping students who feel anxious have a safe place to express themselves and be okay no matter how they show up that day. I can be a soft place to land and still ask a lot of them.

If you have a written assignment, send it to us beforehand. During the session, we use the whiteboard on the screen as the “paper on the desk between us.” If your work is computer-based, there are a number of ways we can work with it. We’ll figure that out with you based on what you’re comfortable with, privacy-wise. After booking, we’ll reach out to find out which video platform works best for you, whether that’s Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, or another option, and send your meeting link before the session.

Sessions are typically one hour. Shorter or longer sessions are available on request and prorated accordingly. We adjust to what works best for the student.

We will tell you honestly. Exponential Tutoring will never ask you to keep coming in if it isn't genuinely helping. If another tutor or a free online resource would serve your student better, we'll say so and point you in the right direction.
